Mother’s Day songs
There’s lots of songs which could be a soundtrack to Mum Life – Under Pressure or No Sleep being prime examples*. But it’s Mother’s Day this week so it’s about celebrating us and putting ourselves first for a change. Get these songs on a playlist to feel all warm and fuzzy this Mothering Sunday – or, better still, share this post with your other half and get them to set the mood with some Mother’s Day songs this weekend.
*(Check out my soundtrack to baby parenting if you’re new to this mothering stuff.)
Mama, Spice Girls
‘Back then I didn’t know why, why you were so misunderstood.’ A classic line, if all you feel you do is boss and nag your kids around. Plus so many mums (like me) sang this back in the day when we were little girls.
Superwoman, Alicia Keys
‘This is for all the mothers fighting for better days to come.’ For those ‘sometimes we crack’ moments.
Mom, Meghan Trainer
‘You might have a mom, she might be the bomb, but ain’t nobody got a mom like mine.’ This must have been written with Mother’s Day in mind.
Her, Anne-Marie
‘A love like no other, she puts everyone else first; When I was younger I treated her the worst.’ This is one to give you ‘something in my eye’.
Mamma Hold My Hand, Aloe Blacc
‘I’d call my momma to help and she’d come right away.’ This song narrates a cute story about needing your mum when you’re little, then not – then sometimes still needing them when you’re grown and overwhelmed.
Mama’s Song, Carrie Underwood
‘Mama, you taught me to do the right things, so now you have to let your baby fly.’ I already tried telling myself this when my eldest started nursery this week.
The Best Day, Taylor Swift
‘I hear your laugh and look up smiling at you, I run and run past the pumpkin patch.’ Sometimes you don’t know what memories you’re creating each day.
All I Know So Far, Pink
‘People will pretend but baby girl nobody knows, And even I can’t teach you how to fly.’ In a world full of ‘dad anthems’, Pink stands alone in the ‘mum rock’ genre.
Sweetest Devotion, Adele
‘The sweetest devotion hit me like an explosion.’ Remember seeing your kids for the first time? A must-have for your Mother’s Day songs.
